Dominic Mentor Prior to coming to the United States of America to complete an EdD in Instructional Design and Technology, Dominic Mentor was a lecturer (university teacher) at a University of Technology. He taught Business Communication and End-User Computing. While teaching these two courses, Dominic Mentor uses WebCT as a Learning Management System (LMS), a program similar in use, to the functions offered by the ClassWeb Course Management System. This was not out of choice, but decided by the mere fact that his institution, Cape Peninsula University of Technology had purchased a license to use it and no other technical support (servers, admin support) was being offered for other Open Source LMS/CMS software that was available. Training for WebCT was offered frequently throughout the year and many people signed up for the training. This early adopter joined in as it was the only LMS, albeit cumbersome in design and interface, and re-designed all of his courses to fit in with the new learning management system. Of a year using After a year of using WebCT and realizing that he was but one of three staff members using it in the biggest faculty of his institution, he was intrigued and set out to research why adoption of this LMS was not matching the amount of staff |
