About Me
Born in Zuarungu in the Upper East Region of Ghana, I pursued my basic education at the local primary and middle schools fairly close to my home. I proceeded to Bawku Secondary School (also in the Upper East Region) for my GCE Ordinary and Advanced levels, and then to the University of Ghana where I pursued a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry with Biochemistry.
Upon completing my National Service as a TA in the Chemistry Department, University of Ghana, I enrolled for a Masters degree in Chemistry in the same university. Whilst undertaking my postgraduate studies, I won a University of California Education Abroad Program scholarship and was sponsored to undertake a one-year study/research at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA.
I subsequently returned to Ghana and completed my MPhil degree in Chemistry after which I was appointed a lecturer in the Chemistry Department, University of Ghana. I served in this position for about 5 years and was again granted a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in Instructional Technology at Columbia University, New York, USA. Under this program, I pursued a 2 year MA degree, and upon completion, was offered a 6-month opportunity to work at the ICT for Development Unit of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), New York, USA, as a policy specialist.
Following this, I returned to Ghana and was engaged as a lecturer at the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Accra. After serving in this position for 2 years, I returned to Columbia University in 2005 for my doctorate degree in Instructional Technology, and graduated in 2009. I capped off my doctoral education with a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the EdLab, Teachers College, Columbia University, USA.
In August 2010, I was appointed a Senior Lecturer and Director of Instructional Technology at the Regent University College of Science & Technology, Accra. After holding this position for 2 years, I joined Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), formerly Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) as a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Kumasi Satellite Campus. In February 2013, I was reassigned as the Head of the Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) Department at the main campus in Accra. From January 2015 to May 2016, I handled an additional portfolio as the Head of the Centre for Online Learning & Teaching (COLT) also located at the main GTUC campus.
In August 2018, I was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and subsequently reassigned as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in November 2021.
The foregoing shows that my working career has spanned over 25 years, all of which have been in the tertiary/higher education sector. I have therefore honed my skills as a lecturer (having taught over 10 different courses at all levels, and supervised scores of students in their research theses) and a researcher (having researched and published several articles, as well as made presentations in several conferences).
I presently live in Accra with my wife Victoria and three offspring - Barbara, Anna and Gifty.
